Originally from Guelph, Jo has lived in Elora since 1977. Creativity at home and through a multitude of art classes was encouraged from a young age. Her father was a muralist and wildlife oil painter; her mother a landscape watercolour painter.
Painting in acrylic and oil, subjects vary but all are mainly in portrait style. They need to connect with the viewer so Jo accomplishes this with the eyes or bright colour as the focus, drawing the viewer into the painting.
Also a clay artist, Jo started throwing pots in 2001 under the guidance of Eleanor Hendriks of Guelph and later Geoffrey Stevens of Elora; two professional ceramic artists respected in their field. Shortly after, she discovered sculpting and continues to this day creating magical pieces through what she says is an inspired and joyful process.
